Children’s Chat: Repent

Ever need to teach the meaning of the word “repent”?

Gather the youth near the front. Ask them what they think repent means. Explain that the Bible uses it a lot, so we should likely figure it out. Tell them you are going to walk or run away from them (down the aisle) and before you get outside, they need to yell “Repent!”

When they do so, turn around and quickly go back to them.

“Repent means to turn back. Return! Do a 160. It doesn’t just mean being sorry or saying sorry. It also means changing your behavior.”

Have the kids now wander from you in all directions. They are a scattered flock. Yell Repent! Have them run back to you.

“Jesus is the one saying ‘Repent!'” (Or Moses, or John, or whomever is in the lesson.) “When we hear it, we need to stop! Turn! And go back to God.”

Conclude with prayer for awareness to the call to repent; and the power to run back swiftly.
