(Rough plan. The truth is the Spirit moves where she will and cannot be planned – especially with kids!)

We are going to have a very strange Easter this year in a few weeks. Usually we get together at church for Easter. Remember all the flowers and the cross with purple on it? This year to keep everyone healthy, we’re going to get together with each other through the internet and telephone. But Easter is going to be even WEIRDER. Instead of getting together with all our family after church for a big meal… we’ll likely be at home ALL DAY – just like we have been doing.
No big feast.
No big church service.
Does that mean … no Easter?
On the first Easter there was no big feast and no church service either. The first Easter people were sad, a bit like they are now. And people were scared, like they are now. And early one morning they got together expecting to find Jesus’ dead body. They were going to get the body ready for a funeral. But instead, they found Jesus’ tomb was empty! Jesus isn’t dead. He’s alive!
Where is he? He’s walking with us, and guiding us, and we are his body. So your head might be far away from your feet, but they’re still connected. This Easter you might be far away from Grandma, but you’re still connected.
Like the first Easter, we’re inventing new traditions and reinventing old traditions to explain the miracle… Jesus lives!
Would you help me with our weird Easter? Start sending me some pictures, or videos, or drawings, of what you are doing in this weird time to get ready for Easter. Show me your Easter Eggs and your homework from home. Show me a drawing of your pets. Show me a video of you singing. I’m going to take all of these and build us an Easter video to connect us on Easter morning. Tag me on Facebook, mail me, email me!
Pray with me please!
Creative God, we are getting stir crazy, we’ve got cabin fever, we’re getting bored. This is the lent-i-est Lent we’ve ever Lented! Everything is slowed down and gone without. Help direct our minds and bodies for what lies ahead. Help us remember that the boredom and pain and uncertainty now leads to renewal, new life, and celebration later. Amen.
